I was scheduled for an induction on January 5, 2016, which just happens to be one day before Cooper's 3rd birthday.
We arrived at the hospital at 7:30AM and got all the boring paperwork done and spoke with the doctors and nurses about how we wanted to proceed. Considering how fast my labors progressed the first two times we decided that it would be best to get an epidural before they broke my water. The staff kept asking why we wanted to do it that way but were understanding once we explained it to them.
I was hooked up to the pitocin at 8:30AM and checked by the docs. I was dilated to a 4 and 70% effaced. I sent Dallin to the cafeteria to get some breakfast and I continued to contract very mildly until the anesthesiologist came in to give me my epidural. By 9AM I had my epidural and by 9:30AM they broke my water. For the next 30 minutes Dallin and I chatted and talked about how lovely and enjoyable this labor had been compared to the last two. Then my nurse came in and said the baby's heartbeat was starting to dip just a little bit so she wanted to check me out. She checked all the monitors and they were still in a good position so she checked to see how dilated I was. Suddenly she says, "Well, that's why his heart rate is dipping...he's trying to come out! I can already see his head, you're having this baby!"
Dr. Porter came in and made a few jokes as he always does. We started pushing and with only ONE push sweet little coleman was here! I was so numb...I had only gotten my epidural 1 hour ago. I couldn't even tell that coleman had already made his debut so I just kept on pushing! Dr. Porter finally had to tell me, more than once, "Sarah, stop pushing...he's here!"
After just 30 minutes of real labor, all with a sweet and effective epidural, our amazing coleman graham jolley was born at 10AM healthy as he possibly could have been and no complications!
The whole experience was so perfect and enjoyable, there is nothing that I would have changed about it!
